    i agree with you that the mainstream appeal still isn't there (and i doubt tumblr is going to take it much further than it couldn't been taken 15-20 years ago), but as far as the music is concerned i've never really listened to a raider klan tape and felt like it was a direct rehash (though certain tracks like the one you pointed out are pushing it). as of recent the cloud rap scene is hitting them like a ton of bricks, and some of their beats are reaching a level of dreamy, hazy-eyed beauty that 90s memphis tapes never dreamed of, and i imagine this is going to continue getting better. as for beat lifting & such, the apperance of ugk/skinny pimp beats on denzel's tape don't seem like rehashes either; they just sort of come across as shoutouts to the roots of their sound in the midst of their own thing. it's all very 90s memphis, but if they keep cluing into and assimilating new developments of hip hop into their sound then there's a lot they can still get up to.
