Biography

Turkey

Demet Akalın is one of the most famous singers in Turkey. Her songs mostly become summer hits and usually include lyrics about broken relationships, fights and being stronger afterwards.
She became famous a decade ago for having a relationship with the famous basketball player Ibrahim Kutluay. When they broke up she started her music career with her hit single “Senin Anan Güzel Mi” (Is Your Mother Beautiful) and became popular with the hit album “Unuttum” (I Forgot You).

In 2004 she became widely popular with the hit song Bittim (I Am Done) and won the Best Song Award in Kral TV Music Awards (the most prestigious music award in Turkey) in 2005 with the Ersay Üner song “Aşkın Açamadığı Kapı” (The Door That Love Can’t Open) which was later translated to Hebrew and Greek, becoming amazingly popular throughout Europe and the Middle East.
She still continued her career and the summer of 2006 saw a Demet Akalın blast with her album Kusursuz 19 (the Perfect 19). All of her video songs became number 1 on music boards, netting several awards including the Altın Kelebek (the very prestigious Golden Butterfly) and MÜYAP Golden Record.
In 2007 she released a brand new single - Tatil (Vacation) - which also became popular and finally in February 2008 she released her latest album “Dans Et” (Dance Please) and she became the queen of dance music in Turkey with the singles “Mucize” (Miracle) “Dans Et” (Dance) and “Bebek” (Baby). She is now preparing her remix dance album which she is planning to release in summer 2009.
