Defying Control

Defying Control is born from a passion that both Killer (singer/bass player) and Xico (guitar) had for punk rock music! These two founders of the band grew up listening to amazing bands such as NOFX, Bad Religion or Ramones. In 2003 they got together in a punk rock band which, in 2005, gave birth to Defying Control.

Between 2005 and 2007, the band had to deal with several line-up changes. Nevertheless, a promo EP only for labels was recorded and DC played lots of live shows, along with some known names of the Portuguese punk scene like Tara Perdida, Primitive Reason, Easyway, Aside and Devil In Me. There were also several interviews given to radio stations, webzines, blogs and fanzines and the band played for the first time in a TV show. The promo EP got some positive reviews from Portugal and also from foreign countries.

In February 2007, Defying Control’s first full-length entitled “Reflection” is released. It was more of a resume of the first few years as a band than a concept album. It was released in 6 European countries, and it was great for the band in terms of learning some important aspects of the whole music scene, and of course, to grow up and become more mature. Following up the album release, there was a tour, in which the band played with the american band IGNITE.

By this time, André Lopes da Silva (guitar) joined the band, which was crucial in DC’s development. Due to his musical and production skills, he ended up producing most of the new album and has revealed to be a great value added to the band.
