This one was a bit of a disappointment after White Pony, which was (and is) fucking amazing from top to bottom. There's some good stuff here for sure, but there are also some stinkers and overall it seems like a bit of a regression after the artistic breakthrough of White Pony.
Darkest Deftones album for sure, it's so dense, it can be a little bit hard to digest at first, so I can see why some people choose to step aside on this one, but once you get used to it you never go back, my favorite Deftones album along with White Pony.
This is def. my favorite album of theirs. In my case when it came out it resonated with me more than anything else. I was about 17 then, I liked WP a lot but I didn't have huge expectations so maybe that's why I didn't have a typical experience which seems to be disappointment.
I really like the first 3 tracks and "Battle-Axe" but the rest of the album is weak, especially "Lucky You" and "Anniversary Of An Uninteresting Event". If the album had more tracks like the first 3 it would be way better.
