Denton TX, United States (1993 – present)

Deep Blue Something is an American rock band best known for its hit single “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” The group was founded in 1993 in Denton, Texas by students Todd and Toby Pipes, Kirk Tatum, and John Kirtland.

In 1996, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” which referenced the classic Audrey Hepburn film of the same name, reached the top five in the U.S. and number one in the United Kingdom.

There was conjecture that the band took so much time off between Home and Deep Blue Something in order to fight US centered copyright issues related to their initial album, 11th Song, which they believed to be of lower quality than their name deserved. The 7 year hiatus between albums is believed to be partially responsible for their failure to succeed in the US with their self-titled release.

The band’s website is no longer available, although they do have a profile on social networking website MySpace. The band is planning on playing a few shows summer of 2006 and to release new music through iTunes.

John Kirtland is now running a successful independent record label called Kirtland Records. Based out of Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles, California, Kirtland’s shrewd business dealings led to his ownership of the back-catalog of superstar band, Bush and royalty rights on the sales of certain albums by No Doubt. After selling off his rights to the No Doubt material, Bush remains on the Kirtland label along with successful indies like Bril and the Burden Brothers.

The amount of times their biggest hit was scrobbled under wrongly spelled names is cringe-worthy. And the lack of appreciation for Parkbench is shocking. >_<

I have listened to nothing besides the Home album in the past 2-3 days and I haven't even come close to getting sick of it. Such a sold album.

It is funny to see how people can make stupid comments as "one hit band", who cares about the commercial success or acceptance, it is about if you like the music and can recommend, and they made some remarkable CD's

hello out there is computer land, this a really good band that could have gone places, with right lablel and promotion. They were a mixture of great pop songs, harder rock, alternative, and even lush ballads. Give a listen to these songs from Deep Blue Something Cd/Parkbench/Hell in itself/she is/and beautiful ballad Enough to get by. Also from Home CD listen to great song called Done as well as Halo. For a real treat listen to Breakfast at Tiffanys first cut without the great lead guitars fron eventual single release. I own first 3 cds and they showed some great promise. Too bad it was so short lived. Thanks guys for the music. Canadianmusic guy

Home and Byzantium are incredible albums, people think because Breakfast at Tiffany's that they just do something like that only, when you hear those albums entirely, then your opinion may change; I stop everybody who think they can only do Breakfast at Tiffany's.
