I just have to love these lines: O heavenly Father / pathogenic agent of contamination / harbringer of catastrophe / icon of the impending Fall.

Not necessarily; they could easily have used the same source source tapes and just pressed the records at different speeds. And the picture discs don't sound bad at all, apart from Paracletus and Drought being clipped. Picture discs used to be vastly inferior to regular LPs but the technology used these days makes it very difficult to tell a difference.

pic lps sound like shit, i just sold my box set for $230. @cassandra-leo considering the 12" is mastered at 45rpm and the pic lp is mastered at 33 1/3 rpm, they have to be different.

They probably haven't. Even though, picture LP's rarely sound anywhere near as good as ordinary vinyl. Still, the vinyl master on the regular is vastly superior to the digital edition, there's still a bit of clipping but nowhere near the amount going on in the digital edition.

Do you know if they used a different master for the regular MLP than for the picture LP?

That's good news; I ordered that vinyl box. Hopefully they did as good a job with the rest of the material.
