Death Cab for Cutie is an American rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band consists of Ben Gibbard (vocals, guitar, piano), Chris Walla (guitar), Nicholas Harmer (bass) and Jason McGerr (drums).
Death Cab began as a solo project of Ben Gibbard, now the band’s vocalist and guitarist. Gibbard took the band name from the satirical song
Death Cab for Cutie, performed by The Bonzo Dog Band in The Beatles’ 1967 experimental film Magical Mystery Tour. As Death Cab for Cutie, Gibbard released a cassette titled You Can Play These Songs With Chords; the release was surprisingly successful, and Gibbard decided to expand the band into a complete project. He recruited Chris Walla (who had also worked on the cassette) as an electric guitarist, Nick Harmer as bass guitarist, and Nathan Good to play drums.
The four released the LP Something About Airplanes on August 18th 1998. The album was favorably reviewed in the independent music scene, and in 2000 the band released We Have the Facts and We’re Voting Yes. Nathan Good left the band at some point during this album’s production. His playing on “The Employment Pages” and “Company Calls Epilogue” were kept, but Gibbard played drums on all other songs.
Michael Schorr would first appear on The Forbidden Love E.P., released on October 24, 2000. In 2001, another LP was released, entitled The Photo Album. Limited editions of this album contained three bonus tracks, which were later released separately as The Stability EP.

afaulk - so you're saying you'd be super-pumped if death cab came out with an album that sounded nothing like anything they've done before, but that more money and better studio time has destroyed the growth of their sound? i dunno, i feel like most of their fanbase abandoned them after "plans" came out simply because it wasn't better than "transatlanticism." i don't think they'll ever top that album, nor are they really trying. but the point is they're still making good music and while i hate that they're on the new twilight soundtrack, they're entitled to their money simply because they once made an album as good as "transatlanticism"

I gotta say that regardless of what DCFC does in the future they still have in my opinion some of the best music out there. Regardless of this New Moon move they will still write and put out songs that are fantastic. I guess with a band this good you have to expect them to gain fame, and if any band is deserving of attention it is this one. So I don't think this move should really change what you think of them. Just be happy that they are being heard, because what band does not want to be heard?

yo "dakulest"... i love that death cab and gibbard are getting the credit they deserve but when a band gets more money and more major studio time it inevitably changes their sound to a more produced and mainstream sound.... it just sucks that the death cab sound of old will never grow into something new and good just cliche and overproduced. thats all... i love all my indie bands for the indie sound not because they are unknown if death cab pulled a radiohead and came out with a postal service/electronica sounding album i would be super pumped
