• Facebook Collection Impressions: #3, Rock

    15 Aug 2006, 14:45 by Charron

I'm back again, and late again, with the third set of select songs from Facebook and Apple to explain the sudden and giant jump in these songs' listener numbers. This week, we focus on rock.

    1. The Classic Crime - The Coldest Heart: This is what I tend to think of when I think of just plain, unaltered rock. It's got power, but it's not heavy, and the vocals aren't horribly annoying.

    2. Oranger - Crooked In the Weird of the Catacombs: I thought long song titles were for indie bands. This is more my speed, which means it's almost more alternative than rock.

    3. Rye Coalition - Pussyfootin: Hair band inspiration, anyone? I'm sure you could pass this off as a Poison or Damn Yankees song if you tried hard enough. Of course, going by their picture, these guys look better than Ted Nugent.

    4. Simon Dawes - The Awful Things (Album Version): Am the only one who can't really understand the lyrics? Ignoring that, the song's got a good albeit repetitive rhythm to it, and is certainly listenable.

Okay, I'm taking this from CMJ who turned up in my recommended reading for citing Rem. And it seemed like the weird sort of thing that made a great deal of sense to my inner ten-year-old girl, so ...

Go to your music player of choice and put it on shuffle.
Say the following questions aloud, and press play.
Use the song titles that come up to answer each question.
and no guarantee for no embarassing songs ;)

How does the world see me?
    Artist: Mono Puff
    Song: Extra Krispy
Comment: Yeah right. Maybe extra squishy.

Will I have a happy life?
    Artist: Foreign Born
    Song: We Had Pleasure
Comment: Not bad. Kind of worried about that past tense, though.

What do people really think of me?
    Artist: Rusted Root
    Song: Too Much
Comment: Oh dear. That's not much of an endorsement.

Do people secretly lust after me?
    Artist: The Breeders
    Song: Saints
Comment: And that may be sufficiently twisted.

How can I make myself happy?
    Artist: They Might Be Giants
    Song: Ana Ng
