King's Lynn, United Kingdom (2005 – present)

Deaf Havana are an English sextet from King’s Lynn in the UK. The band was formed in 2005 at the King’s Lynn campus of The College of West Anglia. The band’s early releases along with constant touring developed a strong fan base in the UK music scene. The name Deaf Havana came from their former guitarist Sebastian Spitz, but the name itself has no literal meaning.

Deaf Havana was formed when the original members met at the King’s Lynn campus of The College of West Anglia. The bands roots can, however, be traced back much further with Ryan Mellor, James Veck-Gilodi and Lee Wilson all attending Smithdon High School and playing together in Various local scene bands. At college, these members were joined by Tom Ogden and Sebastian Spitz, this early lineup saw James singing and Ryan taking guitar/unclean vocal duties.
The band quickly got down to writing songs and an early 7-track demo, titled White Lines But No Camera, which was recorded August 2006 at the Lodge, Northampton. The band toured this lineup until the departure of Sebastian and the introduction of Chris Pennells, formerly a member of the band “Something About Dave”, who took over guitar duties.

In late 2006 the band began writing songs for their debut EP, entitled “Evangeline”.

They really deserve to be huge because they're even too good. Probably the best band in my life.

Softening your sound doesn't automatically mean "trying to fill the market". That's a weird mentality that too many metal/rock fans still have. I don't think that's what you were implying but it comes close.

@marcel07 : I'm sure the other band you're referring to is We Are The Ocean. Both bands had very promising EPs then they blew up with their watered down full lenghts. I'm glad both changed their style to something that suit them much better. If you think they sold out, you're crazy. Poppy post hardcore is much more lucrative than the styles they're playing right now. In fact, that's the opposite of selling out.

Soldier_cloud: I agree with you on the fact that they sound a bit more like The Gaslight Anthem, that's all that I can think of with the new songs, but it's still good. I agree that it lacks the edge that they used to have, and it seems a bit formulaic, the whole thing. But like I said, I still think it's good, and they hinted at this sound with the bonus disc for Fools And Worthless Liars already, and that the bonus disc was more inspired by the music they actually listen to today, and I think that Old Souls really is somewhere in between Fools And Worthless Liars and the bonus disc, + some The Gaslight Anthem, haha.

So I've tried guys... I really have. I Fucking love "Meet Me Halfway, At Least" and I don't think the day will come to pass when it is removed from my iTunes. I don't dislike the new stuff but it's not nearly as good as your first album... Not even close.

It really just sounds like Bruce Springsteen or The Gaslight Anthem instead of remaining on the melodic post-hardcore style. It's not even as "hard" as Biffy Clyro anymore. Jesus Christ!

This is simply pathetic. Another band changing their style in time just to fit the market - where is the original Deaf Havana style such as of Anemophobia?! Where's the dynamic music?! It just sucks!!
