Dezider Ursiny a.k.a. Dežo Ursiny (IPA: [‘deʒo ‘ʊrsini]) (4 October 1947 - 2 May 1995) was a Slovak rock musician and a television and film dramaturge and director. He is considered one of the most important personalities of Slovak rock music and one of the most talented and unique Slovak popular music composers. He belongs to a wide group of the so called legends of Czechoslovak Big Beat, which was a name given to underground music movement in Czechoslovakia especially in the late 1960s. He was a member of now legendary Big Beat bands The Beatmen and The Soulmen in the mid 60s and since the mid-1970s he had pursued a critically acclaimed, but commercially unsuccessful solo-career, releasing 12 studio albums, which varied stylistically, but are mostly spoken about in terms of art rock, progressive rock or jazz rock. He composed music for several films, including the popular TV musical “Neberte nám princeznú” and also shot a few documentary movies during his lifetime.

    Thanks SOOOO much! I was in Slovakia 13 years ago and my friend gave me a copy of Modry Vrch which I have LOVED. I was wondering how I would ever get more of his music I decided to google him and wow, much more than i could hope for.

    j mozne to je s tym strpkom, ale na druhej strane je to temer automaticky spajane meno s tymto geniom. vlastne neviem teraz ktory z nich bol/je vacsi genius, ale myslim ze to v podstate nikoho nezaujima, lebo obaja su zatial the greatest co sa tyka slovenskej popularnej hudby za ostatnych 40 rokov.

    ahoj, podla mna sa zabuda aj na dalsie meno ktore sa vyskytuje na obaloch albumov hned vedl Dezovho - Ivan Strpka. Napr. vyborny album 4/4, tiez je tam Strpka atd ... _ a myslim ze je vhodne ako to uz niekto mudry urobil, ze chybne tagy boli rozoznane a oznacene ako chyba pri mene a uvedeny spravny tvar mena ... _ yeaah Dezo a Ivan too - forever !!!
