Waco, Texas, United States (1995 – 2012)

DAVID CROWDER*BAND is a Dove Award-winning six-piece, crafts compelling, inimitably progressive electronic rock. The band began when David Crowder from Texarkana, Texas, realized that almost half of the students at Baylor University were not attending church, which he found surprising since it is a Christian university. He and Chris Seay started University Baptist Church (Waco, Texas, United States) in 1995 while he was still a student. Crowder led worship there and continued to do so throughout the year. The church’s congregation grew, as did the band’s lineup.

“The one thing non-Christians get perturbed about is that no one is being straightforward with the conversation,” CROWDER explains. “And that’s when they feel like they’ve been had and go, ‘I fell in love with this band and now I find out they’re just trying to subvert my thinking.’ This project says what it is. It’s CHURCH MUSIC and if you’re straightforward with it, there’s beauty that’s available to people who may not profess the same beliefs.”

CHURCH MUSIC—the DAVID CROWDER*BAND’s fifth studio offering since the solidification of their lineup back in 2000—will hit stores September 22 through EMI’s sixstepsrecords/Sparrow Records imprint. The band have easily sold more than one million albums to date including 2007’s Remedy, which debuted at #1 on the Christian charts and notched a #22 opening on the Billboard Top 200. “This one’s a monster, man,” CROWDER enthuses, “and lengthy!” The album’s packed with 73 continuous minutes of music, inspired by the likes of Portishead and Sigur Rós. “It’s our stimulus package,” the frontman and occasional Theremin player jokes. “We’re doing our part.”

I disagree, helloimjoshua. I think it's their best one.

it's alright. some parts don't fit my tastes at all but some songs are cool. was expecting to like it more because it's the companion to a collision.

I can't help but laugh at the ones who mention "brainwashing". It's my choice to trust in Jesus and believe in Him, no brainwashing involved ;) Free will. It is sad that they are breaking up. But they have families to take care of and a break will help them I think. Some personal time alone with the Lord and their families will do them some good. Don't worry, we still have their awesome music to listen to! XD And hey, at least their not hogging the spotlight and becoming too mainstream like some of these other 'Christian' artists are doing. We ♥ you, DCB!! ♥♥

Good news, guys! They're actually releasing 2 more albums. Their Requiem Mass (working title) and "Oh For Joy", a Christmas album coming out in October. So at least we'll have enough to do us well! And I doubt they're retiring. Feels more like what System of a Down did a few years back: take a break from touring together to work on their own personal stuff, and they'll hopefully get back together after that.

I can see where people can think this is "brainwashing" but speaking as an artist, DCB is simply creating art and conceptual albums that they've obviously thought out. It's just the genre, I mean it's pretty much summed up in "A Collision or (3+4=7)." They do what they do because despite how the elements of worship aren't really there, their music helps us carry the idea. Music to me is the language of the soul, and their music to me is very moving, I can't get enough of it. Doesn't matter whether it's Christian or not, these guys know how to make music.

Their cover of The Transfiguration is almost better than Sufjan's original song

Their cover of The Transfiguration is really well done. [2] I always liked the song, but not Sufjan's style. I'm glad to see it treated better in Crowder's hands.
