(2003 – present)

Dave Matthews and Friends is the touring super-group formed to support Dave Matthews’s 2003 solo release Some Devil. The band includes Dave Matthews (vocals and acoustic and electric guitars), Tim Reynolds (electric and acoustic guitars; long-time Dave Matthews collaborator), Trey Anastasio (electric guitar; of Phish), Ray Paczkowski (keyboards; of Trey Anastasio Band), Tony Hall (bass; member of Emmylou Harris’s band), and Brady Blade (drums; member of Emmylou Harris’s band). Although the whole band, except Ray, appears on Some Devil, the “Dave Matthews & Friends” moniker is only given to the band’s live incarnation.

The band played a short tour in the late fall of 2003, primarily in the Northeast, followed by an even shorter Pacific tour in January 2004. They have played a handful of shows since and have appeared on late-night television several times.

Generally, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds open the show with a short acoustic set, followed by a longer full-band set. Over the course of the tour, Dave and Trey began doing an acoustic mini-set to start the encores, and the rest of the band comes out for another song or two. The setlists consist mostly of songs from Some Devil and cover songs.

"Anybody else out there hate Dave Matthews Band but love Dave and Friends? Because I do... Maybe its just that Dave and Friends is much more jam oriented, has way more jazz influence, is made entirely of really phenomenal musicians instead of a couple with some filler. " I really wouldn't consider Tim Reynolds, Carter Beauford, Stefan Lessard, LeRoi Moore, Jeff Coffin, or Rashawn Ross fillers. DM&F is great because of Trey/Tim on guitar.

@Alrobertson: I feel exactly the opposite about them. DMB is way better in my opinion. They're still cool of course
