Dave Harris

Up in Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, there is a wily busker keeping the old traditional folk blues flames burning. Busking, as you should know, is a noble, ancient profession dating back to the formation of the first cities. In the Middle Ages more musicians played on the streets than in the pubs or castles, and folk musicians have played the market squares since the beginning of time. Tip your hat to the music man and tip his hat, while you are at it. Dave Harris is a one fiery band – not just that, but you can call him the supreme musicologist of one-man bands. He may be the first to have written the book on the subject as he is just about to release “Head, Hands and Feet” a book of one-man bands. Follow the bard for news on this because global lovers of blues & roots music will find an unusual goldmine in that soon to be published book.

When he was just twenty years old, and had left his Toronto home, Dave Harris must have read and heeded Poor Richard’s Almanack’s wisdom “Doors and walls are fools’ paper.” He opted for the freedom of the great outdoors to bring the music to the people where the people are. Harris is an interesting guy, a professional busker who has emancipated himself from the bad part of the music business. No booking agent, no manager, no club owners to hassle with. He has a regular spot and has been there for 35 years, so he is a musical fixture on the inner harbor of the island, a regular tourist attraction in his own right. He admitted, “I am not so good at selling myself.

"Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals" should really be credited to Dave Harris and the Powerhouse Five. Whoever designed the back cover of RE/Search: Incredibly Strange Music, Volume 1 was a little careless. Still, daveharrisomb's confusion is kind of hilarious. Attention Dave: this page isn't somebody pretending to be you, it's a page ABOUT you, or rather about every recording artist who goes by the name Dave Harris. The "buy" links by your albums go to online record stores that sell them...presumably when you recorded those albums you were aware that they would be sold in record stores, right?

There is more than one person in the world named Dave Harris who released music in the last 100 years? Must be pre-cog identity theft!

No I didn't do "Dinner for a Pack...". Why is it on a site associated with my name? I receive no money from itunes or amazon. I can't believe all of this could be done without my consultation. Very very frustrating!!!

Hi Dave, last fm doesnt sell stuff, it just links to amazon or itunes, i assume you get the royalties from amazon and itunes. If you upload your music and allow it to be streamed with lastfm then you can get paid (a small amount of) royalties from it from lastfm when people stream your music. The user that did that, wont have made any money from your music and has been deleted anyway so go here to claim your page back Anyway i've flagged the incorrect picture as abuse and it hopefully should disappear soon. Please could you upload one of your photos so that i can see your real photo when i play your cd. Love the tunes keep up the great work, cheers :)
