jmce- you are correct, it was written in 9/8 (the first part, and the middle section is 4/4). This is absolutely my favorite song out of 100s of jazz songs I listen to. I've probably listened to it 50+ times and have never gotten tired of it. It makes my day whenever I hear it. This song is so much fun to listen to and play, but difficult. Paul Desmond's solo is amazingly melodic yet so passionate. It's a great song to analyze for its musicality too. Thank you Dave Brubeck for writing this song!
