Biography

Providence RI, United States (2001 – present)

Daughters (frequently mislabeled ‘The Daughters’) was a band formed in Providence, Rhode Island in 2001, following the demise of a similar Providence-based band, As The Sun Sets. Their music is fast and ; their drums commonly feature blast beats, and their guitars are a blur of high pitched squeals and fast fretting. With the release of Hell Songs, Daughters became more of a band - with vocals more reminiscent of The Jesus Lizard’s David Yow than a traditional or vocalist - and toured with bands such as The Locust, Russian Circles, Young Widows, and The Chinese Stars.

They currently have four releases: a self-titled EP (2002), Canada Songs (2003), [album artist=daughters]Hell Songs (2006), and a self-titled album (2010). In April 2009 Sargent House is re-issuing their Self-titled EP from 2002 with new artwork.

Daughters released a new self-titled LP on March 9 of 2010, on Hydrahead Records, without longtime members Nicholas Sadler and Samuel Walker. It will presumably be their last, with no tour planned for the album.

Nick Sadler, the ex-guitar player of Daughters, plays in a project named Fang Island, which is a band that breaks away from the musical style in which he played with Daughters.

PS: I love HELL SONGS. Once the singer adopted the David Yow ish vocals instead of the screaming and once the songs became more complex with the interesting musical interplay, the band was really doing something special.

All their albums are different and impressive in their own right. I can say I like the "longer" song structures of the self-titled surely for live purposes...When I saw them after the release of Canada Songs their entire set list was MAYBE 30 minutes long including rambling and spitting by Lex. It was a chaotic 30 minutes but still more stage time = more fun time, more Suntory time....But that's just like, my opinion man.

self titled is ok, Canada Songs is pretty good and Hell Songs is brilliant. I think they sounded better with the noise rock vocals than they did with the grindcore style screaming.

I'd like them without the wannabe early punk/Mick Jagger vocals

Has anyone heard Lex's new band Fucking Invincible? From what he was doing in Hell Songs to that completely generic "hardcore" band sound is depressing. Talk about working backwards...
