On with the show and the next decade of my life. What happened in 1994? Green Day released Dookie. Kurt Cobain shot himself. Justin Bieber was born. Oh my...
Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance
I believe I was introduced to COC in the early 2000's when the stoner rock boom was still going strong. I remember Deliverance getting played a lot back then and although a lot of music I listened to in those days has somewhat fallen out of favor, Deliverance is still probably my favorite COC album. Though not necessarily prototypical stoner rock, Deliverance's hard edged southern rock fit perfectly on the same playlists as Kyuss, Monster Magnet and the like. I suppose these days the term "stoner rock" could be used more to describe a movement than a genre of music as a lot of bands were simply lumped under that term during that particular time period. …

As terrible as the mainstream got in the 90's (real dark ages for sure), there was an incredible amount of quality music released just as well. No shortage of great albums to pick from so I gotta go with the classics here.
Danzig - Danzig III: How the Gods Kill
"I'm gonna stand, at the top of the world, challenge the heavens, gonna bring you god"
For whatever reason Danzig III isn't the most memorable Danzig record for me. I find myself overlooking it quite a bit and I really shouldn't because it is a terrific album. Coming off the heels of Danzig II, the album has some mighty big shoes to fill. The approach here is slightly more straightforward with power chord driven rockers dominating the tracklist. Even so, Danzig III includes two of Danzig's best (power) ballads - "How The Gods Kill" and "Sistinas". Good stuff and nothing but.

When I was six, it was a very good year ...suprisingly. No shortage of quality albums to pick from yet these five stood high above the rest. In my collection, anyway.
Danzig - Danzig II: Lucifuge
I told you Danzig would be back. As good as the debut album is, Danzig II: Lucifuge is the band's greatest achievement. And I do mean the band as a whole as the experience of playing together for a couple of years comes across quite clear here compared to the relatively young band on the debut. As quite often is the case, the first album has the fan favorite songs but the second album is altogether a stronger effort. Not one low point as Danzig displays his full range from the usual hard rockers to bluesy cuts like "Killer Wolf" and "I'm The One" and to near crooner territory on a song like "Blood And Tears". Can't recommend this one enough.

Another great year in music. But what records do I own and which of them do I choose? We're 5 years in so let's recap the criteria:
A. I must own a physical copy of the record in question.
B. Compilations, archival releases, EPs and live albums should be avoided if possible.
C. No more than one release per artist per year.
Albums will be presented in alphabetical order by artist.
Danzig - Danzig
Can't go wrong here - Danzig has arrived. Probably one of the manliest records ever. Makes you just want to bash your head against the wall. Yup, one of those records. I can't even put together any worthwhile sentences while listening to this. Something's rattling loose upstairs. Better turn it off for a moment. There we go, back to my senses. So anyway, I just got disappointed with myself again since I'm traveling abroad while Danzig is playing near home this summer. …

11 Jan 2014, 15:54 by Jim_LithiumAlright, so I wanted to create a Spotify playlist of my 2013 most played tracks - nothing new there but seeing as a couple artist and records dominate the list, I thought it would be a better idea to just add the most played songs of the individual artists on the list. From the available statistics (last 12 months on January 1st 2014) I was able to round out the list to 60 with only a couple omissions that were not available.
In addition I have added references to artists that have released new studio albums or I have seen live during the year. The songs themselves may not be from the referenced albums.
a = new studio album released in 2013
b = seen live in 2013
