Every once in a while, I listen to an album for the first time and immediately realize that I'm listening to Meaningful Piece of Art.
Warped, psychedelic, deep, unhinged. Danny broadens his palate, stretching the constraints of hip-hop by incorporating distorted house, sparse post-punk, clanging horror core beats, and some indescribable haunted-house marching band sounds.
This is like a rap album sent back in time from 200 years in the future. Signing to Warp seems to have triggered the weirdest parts of Danny's brain and we're all better off for it.
I love how authentic Atrocity Exhibition is. It's a genuine expression of artistic intent, and it couldn't have been done by anyone but Danny Brown. He pretty much shunned anything that might have made this album more palatable to the mainstream because fuck it he does what he wants. And the album is so much better for it.
