12 Aug 2008, 00:03 by Colleen123People seem prone to complain endlessly about how much new music sucks. There are some valid arguments, but I feel that there’s still good music out there. Maybe it’s not in as large supply as it once was, but it’s out there. In this journal, I’m counting down the 25 best albums released so far in the 21st century.
25. Is This It - The Strokes (2001)
On this debut album from The Stokes, the New York boys introduced us to their unique brand of jittery rock. This album helped to incite the so-called “garage rock” scene of the turn of the century(which never quite panned out). It may not be as good as some of the things put out by their red-and-white-clad contemporaries, but Is This It has some great songs on it. “Last Nite” is one of the most infectious songs of the 21st century, while “When It Started” and “Take It or Leave It” are also signature Strokes stuff.
24. Parachutes - Coldplay (2000)
7 Aug 2008, 12:44 by diamondgrrlI'm on this Irish boy kick lately, and yesterday morning I was absolutely basking in the Damien Rice. I expect I'll be hearing much more of him this week. (Until I totally wear myself out on him, that is.)
Also, I'm diggin' the chick that sings with him (in undeniable Markéta Irglová fashion), to such an extent that the songs without her seem much less good to me than the ones with her. (Feel free to bash that last sentiment to your heart's content. These are just fleeting, initial thoughts, and are likely to change over time.)
Anyway, here's the list:
Damien Rice - Amie
Damien Rice - Cannonball
Damien Rice - Delicate
Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter
Damien Rice - Volcano
23 Jun 2008, 19:22 by used_chemicalOnce again, the time has called for me to do a review of my Top 50 artists.
Since i reset my stats at the end of 2007, It's a little hard for me to compare their place in my charts with last years chart. Mostly because i have so many "new entries" compared with last year. My music taste is expanding at last, and so i will try and make comparisons and differences between this year and last years charts.
As always i will start with a brief summary of each artist, followed by my favourite song.
50. Keane – New Entry
I may not like the new album as much as the first one, but recently I have been itching for some Keane. I like the variance of the “Piano Rock”. I have always liked Keane, It’s just been more of a case of whether I can be bothered to listen to it. Despite what many people say, I think they are quite brilliant and definatley deserve a spot on my top 50.
Favourite song – Bedshaped
49. Thomas Dybdahl – New Entry
