The Daily Plannet is the genius of twin brothers Kevynn and Keath Bunkley. Known as Allstar the Fabulous and Spotlite the Big Idea with Status, the duo stands as the core of The Daily Plannet…add in childhood friend Antonio Toppin (aka tone the Strategist) and you have the trio called The Daily Plannet.
Born and raised in Gary, In., the twins got into hip hop around 1985 and have continued to grow with the now worldwide musical art form. Growing up, they were influenced by different forms of music from jazz to rock to soul. After hearing rap tunes in the mid 80’s, they found an attachment to the music and began searching for all the information they could find about the music and it’s artists. Although Gary wasn’t a thriving outlet for hip-hop, they stayed current with the latest music through mix tapes. Being in high school throughout the late eighties and early nineties, Allstar and Spotlite were strongly influenced by the “golden years” of hip-hop and gained local notoriety for rapping and dancing around the “Steel City”.
The Daily Plannet was introduced to the underground world of hip hop by All Natural on their first album, “No Additives, No Preservatives” back in 1997. Allstar appeared on the songs “Phantoms of the Opera” and “No Nonsense” helping to create a buzz for the DP. On All Natural’s second album, “Second Nature”, Spotlite made his debut on the stand-out cut “Queens Get the Money”, and Allstar once again added a little style of his own to “Elements of Style”. These cameos helped firmly establish the DP’s creativity and high-talent level.
In addition to working with All Natural, The Daily Plannet is a member of the Family Tree, a multi-group collective consisting of All Natural, Iomos Marad, Mr. Greenweedz, and female member Rita J. (All of the groups are on the record label All Natural Inc.) The Family Tree has released one double vinyl ep called “A Close Knit Family” and two full-length albums, “Planting Seeds” and the latest highly regarded “Tree House Rock”. The Daily Plannet twins set the “Tree House” off with Spotlite blazing two verses on the rambunctious “Spit It”, and sharing flavorful ways on the tune “Flavor”, a show rocking dedication to the days when mc’s had flavor in their style. In sum, “Tree House Rock” wouldn’t be the same without the energy and exuberance of The Daily Plannet.
While building a fanbase through lending their talents to other projects and touring with All Natural and Family Tree, the Daily has also been busy creating their own songs and gathering beats that would compliment their sound in order to release a solid full-length album. In the interim they dropped several high quality singles such as “We Like to Party” and “Why You Wanna,” which serve as perfect examples of what to expect from the hard working and personable Allstar and Spotlite.
And now, as the release of their first album grows near, The Daily Plannet looks to persuade a new way of living, by promoting the thoughts of loving self and others and learning to be yourself despite the pressures of the world today. That’s profoundly the premise of “Team Daily”. So be prepared to adopt a new way of thinking as twin brothers Allstar the Fabulous, & Spotlite the BIG idea w/ status jump off the bench ready to play the game with Team Daily. It’s the Gary, In. born, Family Tree brothers hitting with their debut full-length album. Team Daily is flooded with personal, but highly relative thoughts and views. Underlining the idea of believing in and being you. Through a banging repertoire of beats and melodies Allstar and Spotlite rock and flip stimulating vocals, while continuously reaffirming their b boy background.
While committed to doing music together as The Daily Plannet, both twins also look to pursue solo careers. Spotlite looks to continue to on the path as an insistent mc, while Allstar has formed his own band, “70’s Babies” in which he’ll rhyme and compose music. In addition Allstar and Family Tree member Mr. Greenweedz developed a curriculum for schools to engage students and allow them to examine the lyrics of songs to help enhance literary skills. “Teaching the students how to listen is the key to them actually learning,” says Allstar. Furthermore all three members of the Daily are proud parents that remain active in the lives of their son and daughters. The recurring themes of education and nurturing the youth reverberate throughout the lives of the DP and the album “Team Daily”.
With conscious mind states connected to creativity and a genuine respect for music and love, The Daily Plannet takes aim on the world with their infectious views on ‘loving living’.
