The band was formally founded in February 2005 in Moscow, Russia, although Aeol Mordar and Serge Cheshire had known each other and worked together on music ever since 1997. The band’s activity for the following three years consisted of weekly rehearsals and occasional performances in small clubs in Moscow. Their first endeavors were mostly early Genesis covers.

The Daemangelus style could be referred to as Art Rock—that based on the classics of 1970’s non-psychedelic progressive rock such as Genesis + solo work by Anthony Philips and Steve Hackett, Van Der Graaf Generator & Peter Hammill, ELP, Camel, Gentle Giant, Yes, and to a lesser extent—King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Kansas, Rush, etc. However, the members maintain that they work on their own style without attempting to merely carbon copy any of the well-acknowledged Art Rock bands. Their use of newer devices in music could provide them with a Neo-Prog label, like the many other acts that revive progressive rock in the 21st century.
