• The Bass Goes Like This

Finally got round to going to the post office to get the package from InfraRot. Something new, something old:

    * Neuroticfish - A Greater Good: I don't follow the industry news or what's going on with bands, other than what DJ Todd occasionally comments on Real Synthetic Audio. Thus, when I saw that Neuroticfish had a new CD out, I naturally ordered it without a second though. And it's a history compilation album. Cheers. I already have almost all the songs on other albums so I wouldn't really need that CD; basically a waste of money for me. It's really unfortunate that Sascha called it quits.
    * Glis - A Shot and a Bassline: Glis is one those bands—or artists, really—that I've heard on multiple compilations and have like, but then ever did buy their albums. Until now. The concept of a remix album by a single artist just sounded to appealing and krischan wesenberg has in the past made really good music in Rotersand. This is one of those albums that should have also been released as a DJ-mixed version…
  • Features in iTunes that suck

    23 May 2008, 08:51 by jelovirt

I've been using iTunes as my music player of choice for quite a few years not. I don't remember why I decided iTunes was better than WinAmp, maybe because I wanted to use the same program at work on Windows and at home on OS X. Anyhow, I think I should give Songbird a go, version 0.5 may have what I need. I don't have an iPod nor do I use the iTunes Store, so I would not miss anything there. The only must-have is integration and while the client doesn't support Songbird (yet), there is an addon to enable scrobbling.

So, what is it about iTunes I currently don't like? Nothing really, it's just that it lacks some features that I want.

    (1) Scope of the search. Currently you can only search based on artist, album, composer, song, or with all of the aforementioned fields. Well, I have this thing that I'd like to search based on genre, year, or BPM. Sure I could make a Smart Playlist, but it's really not the same, now is it. …
  • Todd doesn't do periods

I do like DJ Todd's commentaries. For example, on Real Synthetic Audio - 08/01/2005 we have:

And there you have it kids. That was the brand new Apoptygma Berzerk from their single for In This Together, and that was the club mix, or the Flip size club mix [In This Together (Flipside Club Mix)]. And boy, do you know what, I'm gonna go right out on a limb and say that's shit! That is utter garbage! And my god you should hear the original version, it's just awful! Oh man! Well, APB have really changed the direction of their sound and the next album should be really interesting to see if that was more of a one-off track or if it was indicative of the album as a whole, but good lord when I first heard that the first time, I was like, "oh god, you guys've gotta hear this", but I held off because if was just so bad and I thought well, you know, maybe there might be a new remix or something like that that'll make it a bit more palatable. …
