Biography

Tokyo, Japan (1987 – present)

DJ Krush (Hideaki Ishii) was born in 1962 in Tokyo, Japan. Gifted producer & DJ with a superb sense in mixing and composing his sound who’s been greatly received in the international club scene. At an early age, Ishii dropped out of school, and joined a local gang, and a few years later, Yakuza. It was the movie “Wild Style” that got him into hip hop in the early 80’s, and in 1987, he formed KRUSH POSSE which made numerous appearances in various media as the best hip hop act in Japan.

Krush began pursuing his solo career after the break-up of the group in late 1991, and soon grabbed people’s attention as the first DJ to use turntables as live instruments, doing free sessions with live musicians on stage. He released his 1st album “Krush” in January 1994, and since then released countless records in Japan, Europe, US and around the globe. All his solo releases have ranked high in various charts in & out of Japan, and his 6th album “Zen” had been highly acclaimed and awarded the Best Electronica Album in 2002 AIFM Awards (US). His 8th album “Jaku” released in late 2004 has topped the RPM chart of CMJ for 3 weeks in the US. In March 2006, he released his first best albums in self-remixed style, “Stepping Stones”, making another huge buzz around the globe. In March 2007, a historical collection of the 12 years of his career ” Suimou Tsunenimasu” was released in Japan in a special DVD box.

I feel for the people that had their show cancelled, and the man himself, DJ Krush, for all the US Embassy run around that has him cancelling these live dates. My first attempt to witness DJ Krush was not meant to be.

It'd be great if him and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) did an EP/LP

Krush is the man. His funked out, jazzy, scratchy noir tinged beats have provided the soundtrack to some very memorable life-moments and finally seeing him live a couple years back blew my mind. While hypes and trends come and go DJ Krush quietly does his thing leaving the competition in the dust. His style defies easy categorization and raises his music above the flavour of the moment tracks that nobody remembers after the hype fades. Thanks for the awesome beats!

Yo the correct tag for Green Rain is "蒼い雨 - Aoi Ame - Green Rain"! Are we not putting in the kanji in, as the releases on online show? I guess the kanji does pose some tagging issues for some. Glad to see it the top played track nonetheless.

I missed Swans the last tour. MBV didn't come to my city so I didn't have the opportunity to miss it. Hooray! But in fairness DJ Krush rarely tours North America, let alone Canada. (Played my city and my fav venue) So I guess the severity of my fuck up is the worst.

Sorry for rubbing salt in the wound, but fucked up is a very apt description for missing out on his 20th ann. tour. Then again I missed out on My Bloody Valentine and Swans this year, which is a whole new level of unforgivable.

I fucked up (for a lack of a better word) and missed his 20th anniversary tour. I'll never forgive myself for that.

If you're looking for a new track by DJ Krush, check out the Boom Boom Satellites track "On the Painted Desert" remixed by DJ Krush. It's good stuff. Top shelf. It's on the EP "On the Painted Desert - Rampant Colors,"
