Holy shit my last post is stupid. By now, I absolutely love everything by Cynic (though, I haven't listened to The Portal Tapes), this album no exemption. Cynic really doesn't need the growls, if Carbon-Based Anatomy has shown anything. They're cool, ya, and add extra texture, but are by no means what I'd consider definitive of Cynic.

this album sounds like post-rock. pretty cool that they are experimenting with sound, i like it.

The growls were fantastic on Focus and added some volume to TIA but I would love to here the next Cynic album without growls myself. This is a fantastic sound for Cynic, ambient, jazzy and beautiful![3] The only problem i have with them : The robotic voice. [2]

the thing about the growls is that they gave cynic their more unique sound. theres tons of ambiance-oriented jazz acts out there im sure, while cynic was revolutionary with focus, helping form techdeath, and just completely unheard-of with traced. i can dig the mellow stuff, but, for me, cynic is pretty much just in traced and focus.

v I don't think they're horrible, but I prefer the actual sound of his voice and do wish we would get to hear it more.

Say whatever you will of the re-imagined songs; Wheels Within Wheels justifies this whole release regardless. I like the other stuff as well, though. Terrific release.

I don't think necessary to get rid of the growls. I like them.

This is great, once you really lay back and concentrate on it... Wonderful vocals, great acoustics... I wouldn't mind a full album in this vein. They should get rid of the growls, I still think they're the only bad thing about this band.

I know alot of metal heads who just want them to be what they were on Focus are disappointed, but whatever fuck em.. [2]

Great album. I know alot of metal heads who just want them to be what they were on Focus are disappointed, but whatever fuck em.. Part of being an artist and making great music is evolving and always trying new things. Which you get that group who just refuse to accept change and therefore just resort to hating it for the sake of hating it, rather than basing their judgement on the actual music itself. I find this to be a great release, does it sounds like anything else they have done... no, and it doesn't have to. If you want to hear something like the first 2, just listen to the first 2. This to me is a band experimenting and not limiting themselves to what they have done before, and that to me is what great artists do. A few songs on here do not work, but some really do "Intregal" and "Evolutionary" are great takes on their heavy counterparts and give them a whole new element of heavy when heard back to back. Great release.

I like it, at least it gives me something to listen to while I wait (patiently) for a new Tool album.
