Biography

Longlisted for the ‘2013 UK Music Blog Zeitgeist’ and ‘Blog Sound of 2013’.

Roberta Fidora & Macaulay Hopwood are a decorative set of bones, channelling the ghosts of discotheques past. Dramatic, chilling and emotional is the electronic noir sound from Curxes (pronounced ‘Curses’). Minor keys and chromatic chord structures dominate as Roberta Fidora’s haunting, powerful vocals melt over stabbing synths and a stark percussive framework, laced with Macaulay Hopwood’s nouvelle vague bass and six string sensibilities.

This unique, twilight sound is dramatic doom pop at its best.

BREAKING MORE WAVES
“The sound of two robots f*cking.”

THE RECOMMENDER
“The extraordinary vocals from Roberta and the punchy synth-driven productions from Macaulay knock you out with the first blow. Utterly astonishing.”

THE VON PIP MUSICAL EXPRESS
“Let’s cut to the chase Curxes are f*cking amazing. No ifs, no buts, we mean “AMAZING” in the caps locks, fifty foot high, flashing neon letters style, amazing.”

FADED GLAMOUR
“Darkly intense… both terrifyingly and infectiously arresting. Perhaps even dangerously sexy.”
