@jazzthieve: He has done many kinds of music, including jazz. But true, some of his work is not jazz at all

I only know Curtis from the early 1990's when he hit big with his self-titled debut album from Arista, having been signed by them after being discovered playing in a *jazz club*. For hurricane_mario's benefit, Stigers learned his craft at the feet of the legendary Gene Harris, who ended up residing in Boise, ID as damenden will no doubt know. His unintended diversion into pop music cost him dearly and he spent years dismantling his career to allow him to return to his jazz roots. Having said that, great music is just that - regardless of genre labelling, and for me, Curtis Stigers is one of the most talented at what he does best - takes a great song, makes it his own and makes the lyric come alive.

Some of us remember Curtis from his early, early days in Boise. He use to play in a band called the Young Jazz Lions, most often in a tiny little hole of a place called Club DJ's that was basically a basement to a bunch of other clubs (Tom Grainey's being the most famous in that area). Those were some great shows; pure, raw, and a talen in the making. Anyone else see Curtis in his early days??

To hurricane_mario: His music over the last 9-10 years or so is definitely Jazz; but his early "famous" stuff from the 1990s is very much soft/melodic/radio-friendly rock

Um sorry but this isnt blues or jazz. It's melodic rock with a hint of those, similar to Eric Clapton and such.
