On of the greats with Urbie Green, Jay Jay Johnson and Kai Winding of the bop era of the slide trombone: Probably one the better technician who's tonging and approach to embouchure is a lot more similar to the one of Carl Fontana in my opinion! As Raymon Katarzynski (Paris Opera Trombon Soloist) was always staying: You have to "stay behind" when blowing: difficult to understand but brass player will get it. Some players being in front turns their sound (Trumpet or Trombone in a loud approach Bill Watrous described in his two albums: "Manhattan Wilde Refuge" as bugglistic!
