Current 93 is a British experimental music group, working since the early 1980s in folk-based musical forms. The band was founded in 1982 by David Tibet (né David Michael Bunting, renamed ‘Tibet’ by Genesis P-Orridge) in United Kingdom.

Much of Current 93’s early work was similar to late 1970s and early 1980s industrial music: abrasive tape loops, droning synthesizer noises and Tibet’s distorted, ranting vocals. Later works found Tibet mostly casting off such trappings in favor of a more organic sound, labeled by some as “apocalyptic folk”, occasionally featuring his sinister nursery rhyme-influenced singing and primarily acoustic folk-styled music. Tibet has been the only constant in the group, though Steven Stapleton (Nurse With Wound) has appeared on nearly every Current 93 release and Michael Cashmore is another frequent collaborator.

Current 93 have released some twenty albums and many singles.

Tibet’s lyrics have been fairly consistent, regardless of delivery: The earlier recordings reflect his preoccupation with death, Christ, mysticism, Aleister Crowley, Tibetan Buddhism, Gnosticism, Weltschmerz, nihilism, Noddy, and a variety of occult notions. The later to present-day period of Current 93’s recordings increasingly reflect Tibet’s interest in Christian mysticism.

all dolled up like christ is awesome. birdsong in the empire is more out there and cohesive and has them fuck around with the songs more but a lot of the versions on it are just way too overblown and cheesy for their own good. the birdsong versions of black ships ate the sky, niemandswasser and sleep has his house are fucking awesome though.

I second the NWW and Coil of course. I liked the new aethenor album that David Tibet did words for quite a bit its not really 1970's - 80's industrial or neofolk but sort of a slice of todays pie. Andrew Liles isn't too far off topic. Other than that Nekrophile records and many of the bands on the Beast 666 and the other comp have some quality material: Sigillum S, Ain Soph, Zos Kia etc. That not really "british front" but same early industrial material if your into the really early c93 albums at all. There is a pretty good 23 Skidoo album called the Culling Is Coming which I believe tibet played tibetan horns on, also worth a hear.
