Las Vegas, United States (1998 – 2005)

Curl Up and Die, formed in late 1998, was a metalcore band from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Curl Up and Die started as a band struggling to find a solid line-up. Finally solidifying the roster, they recorded their first demo. This roster held until April 1999, where the band then recruited Jesse Fitts as the new drummer. It was at this point that the line-up began to stabilize and hence led to touring. After a few more roster changes including the loss of bassist Geoff Bergman, the band would finally record their first release in early 2000: “1998”. Shortly thereafter, Curl Up and Die would have enough funding to record its EP, “The Only Good Bug Is A Dead Bug”, which was picked up by Status Recordings (Countervail, National Acrobat) in early 2001.

The group eventually signed with Revelation Records in 2001 and their debut full-length CD, “Unfortunately, We’re Not Robots”, would be released by Revelation Records in May 2002. Back in 2001, before the release of their first full length album, the band also had ideas of recording an album of cover songs including covers of bands such as Slayer, Propaghandi, Josie and the Pussycats, Minor Threat, and Lifetime. The band continued on to record two EPs, each sharing a respective half of a broken sentence; the first having the title, “We May Be Through With the Past” and the second with the title, “But the Past Ain’t Through With Us”. The former would be released through the aforementioned label, Status Recordings, while the later by Revelation Records.

while it's unfortunate that a total different sound compared to 90s metalcore has been given the same label, it shouldn't withhold anyone from calling bands with the old metalcore sound this.

By definition, bands like Converge should be metalcore (hardcore + metal), but this isn't the case by most bands associated with the label. I stand by my comment.
