Curl Up and Die was a band formed in 1998 in , by former members of Shelflife and The End, and two members previously unaffiliated with any bands. Often criticised for their name, Curl Up and Die are named so because members saw a hair salon named “Curl Up and Dye,” and found this fit well with the original idea behind their music: a “fake, funny band” making “stupid spooky ” music. ‘Dye’ was changed to ‘die’ and the name was settled.

After stabilizing the band’s line up and recording two demos, the band self-released their first EP, helping them to land a record deal with Status Recordings in 2000. With this label, they recorded three EPs, as well as some split albums with other artists. In 2001, they signed to Revelation Records, with whom they recorded their two full-length albums and the EP But The Past Ain’t Through With Us. The band’s final album was released in 2005, and months later the band broke up. Prior to the breakup, talking about Revelation Records, the band stated “They just cut corners in weird ways to not put out a good quality record. Ways you wouldn’t even have to spend tons of money on. If they don’t want to put effort into these bands or work with bands to make good records, then they shouldn’t be doing it. It’s just really discouraging. You can talk to tons of bands and talk to them about how Rev broke them up and really discouraged the shit out of them, and they do do that to a point.” This has lead many fans to believe Revelation Records played a major part in contributing to the breakup.
