started by songwriter/singer Perry Webb and synth guy Jim Craine (ex AK-47) in 1979 - introduced to each by U Ron Bondage of Really Red and united by a love of all things Throbbing Gristle - first single Another Miracle/Consider Museums released in early 1980 to much acclaim and added guitarist Dan Workman to the band - live gigs ensued with Billy Loner (ex-Plastic Idols) coming aboard to play bass and sax - opened for Sun Ra on one occasion, played legendary Halloween show at 3221 Milam venue - Year One LP brought together various live recordings (a remastered version entitled Year One Again with the first single added was released in 2007) - Craine booted from band for narcotic overindulgence in 1981 - various lineups followed with infamous Tacky Souvenirs LP released in 1985 - this LP consisted of a full slate of popular songs (ie Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, Bruce Springsteen) deconstructed and rerecorded with new Webb lyrics - chaos and lawsuits follow but does not diminish the legacy of the LP which goes on to be namechecked in Jon Savage’s punk history England’s Dreaming and also in Spin magazine - more lineups follow but the rest of the band’s output pales to the first three releases - Webb morphs into another identity, Workman runs SugarHill Studios in Houston, Craine released a slew of techno/trance singles under various names and is a professor in California and Loner is in North Carolina doing his ongoing Bongoloid project.
