Now dis-banded and ex-members formed The Eternal, Cryptal Darkness is an atmospheric and melodic death/doom metal band in the vein of My Dying Bride and early-to-middle era Anathema. Blending melodic guitars, the dark atmosphere of keyboards, violins and painful male vocals. Martin (ex-My Dying Bride) used to play the violin before the namechange. Due to legal reasons the band changed their name from Cryptal Darkness to The Eternal in early 2003. - All albums released up to and including 2001 were released under the name Cryptal Darkness.

Baaslayer, you're right regarding underrated of this band, but I belive, there's something where you're wrong. I mean your opinion about My Dying Bride, they undoubtably the best band among bands of resemble music.

Their second and third album are AWESOME!!! Great 90's Depressive Death/Doom with fine vocals, melancholic violins and sad atmosphere... Criminally underrated...

@ Baalslayer - I agree Cryptal Darkness is incredibly underrated and is without a doubt some of the deepest doom I listen to, but the lyrics on MDB's Dreadful Hours (especially The Deepest of All Hearts) are pure poetry.

Shame this band isn't more well known. After all, Martin Powell of all people plays some of the most graceful violin parts ever in this band. In fact, for me at least, this band is 100 times better than his other band My Dying Bride, which I find to be very overated. Everything is better in Cryptal Darkness...better vocals, more violin, better and more memorable guitar riffs/melodies, much better and more poetic & romantic lyrics...even the drums are nice and punchy sound for a Doom band! :)

They Whispered You Had Risen is great for the most part, but I find the vocals get boring after a while. Some variation in the vocal department could've made it more enjoyable.

Great Doom/Death!!! Shame they split up and reformed as The Eternal. Pretty sucky if you ask me.
