Cryns #3, a fresh Indie rock band from the undergrounds of Minneapolis, Minnesota, is beginning a second round of funky, easy-breezy hits with another album titled “Faraway Farm,” playing on the name of the farm the band’s founder, musical storyteller extraordinaire Toby Cryns, grew up on. Following a national tour to promote their first album, “…if Howard Roarke Could Dance,” the band has its sights set high as they begin work on the second installment, embodying all that is a revival of simpler times.
The trio, consisting of Cryns on guitar and vocals, Ryan on bass, and John keeping rhythm on drums, provides a smooth, energy-driven sound created from punk and bluegrass influences such as Johnny Cash, Miles Davis, and Nirvana. Their freshly unique style is a compilation of emotion and fierce storytelling, not unlike a Sunday stroll through the park with Willie Nelson and The Incredible Hulk.
The band mostly keeps to gigging in the Minneapolis and surrounding areas, playing a monthly spot at the Dinkytowner Cafe and regular gigs at the groovy J&S Bean Factory. Go to a Cryns #3 show and be prepared to rock - just give in to that begging urge to dance or jump around and you will walk away with a satisfied heart. The high-energy of their performances is contagious and the lyrics are so sing-a-longable, you can’t help but chant with them.
