A piece of apocryphal ethnography: feels like ceremonial music (to ward against the windy season, I suppose) from some heretofore undiscovered urban tribe. It all wraps up with nonsense chants against pounding drums, along with hints of grinding industrial noise in the background. That final percussion breakdown and freakout is looming throughout the song, but the bass line is taut enough to hold it all in place for a while. Then the levee breaks, and I can see the primitives in the desolate cityscape now: crazed light from fiery trashbins is throwing their shadows against the skyscrapers, and the din from their chanting is filling the frigid night air, and they're dancing.

Highlight of an album that slipped under the radar in 1982. Bassline brewed from girdirs....
