Biography

Sarasota, Florida (1982 – present)

Progressive metal band Crimson Glory began life in Sarasota, Florida in 1982 under the moniker ‘Beowulf’. They rehearsed diligently, finding and developing their sound for almost four years before recording their self-titled debut album on Par Records in 1986. Tight harmonies and soaring vocals would feature prominently on this release, and the album included the haunting track, “Lost Reflection”.

In an era of sound and look-alike metal bands, Crimson Glory wished to have themselves be immediately identifiable from the rest, so they wore full-face metallic silver masks on-stage (and for all photo shoots and public appearances as well). Quite obviously, the mystically-named vocalist Midnight was the exception to this, as his mask left his mouth uncovered.

Their second release, “Transcendence” was a landmark and it garnered them much-deserved praise and attention, both at home and abroad. They had also discovered how hot the masks would be, so to keep the mystique, they cut them down into a “Phantom of the Opera” style. (After the tour, the masks would be retired.)

After this album’s release, they performed at the 1989 Tampa Bay Music Awards and walked away with three awards that night – Most Outstanding Male Vocalist, Most Outstanding Local Release and Most Outstanding Metal Band (beating out the almighty Savatage for this one).

V Thanks for hinting this, it's awesomely beautiful! *-* It feels like a complete mix of Savatage and Crimson Glory; the song is by CG, but it's being Savatagesized. :D And both of those voices have to be some of the all time best from the US, so nothing's really wrong there. :)

Noxbi, It's up to you. I just ask about this that scrobbles of John's legacy not fall to this guys page: http://www.lastfm.ru/music/Midnight . I like some of good black acts like old Emperor/Satyricon/Samael/Celtic Frost/Arcturus/Falkenbach. But that folks from above mentioned link takes another genial person's scenic name, plays shit, looks like shit and behave like morons .

Now I am listen to Midnight's "Sakada" album and my foobar shows me that some underground black/thrash fuckers take name Midnight, and people scrobble their shit with this name. So, everyone who will listen to Midnight's solo albums - please change 'artist' tag to "Midnight (ex-Crimson Glory singer)" in all your files. Rest In Peace, John.

"Garden of Shadows" is quite impressive (for the "raw demo" at least) actually. All CG trademarks are presented, the atmosphere (has that Astronomica vibe, but more moody I think) of the song is great and Todd's singing compliments both Midnight and Tate (though, I hope he'll add some more screaming parts in the final track :) ). Sure, La Torre is not Midnight (and who is?), but he suits the band great and definitely is a better singer than Wade Black. But in the end it's good to know, that Jon and his band mates can write a quality song after all these years.
