About this album

Petitioning the Empty Sky is an album by American hardcore punk band Converge. While many sources catalog the release as a studio album, the band considers this a compilation album as it’s a collection of songs recorded at different times. It also features both studio recorded tracks among three songs recorded live. Petitioning the Empty Sky was released and distributed through several different labels beginning in the mid 90s. Petitioning the Empty Sky was originally released through Ferret Music in 1996 and was also one of the earliest albums released through the newly formed label. This early version was a 7” EP featuring only the first four tracks of the eventual full-length. Two years later, the album was reissued through Converge’s new label Equal Vision Records as EVR040 on January 20, 1998.

I say original, I meant the original Equal Vision version although I probably prefer the original Ferret 7" over the remastered artwork too.

With all the respect that Jane Doe deserves but "The Saddest Day" is the best thing Coverge have ever done.

why the chugga hate? relative to the chugg-avalanche of the late 90s, i think Converge used it judiciously and to advantage here. great album: why throw that baby out with the breakdowns?

I won't say it's my favorite (I still can't decide between Jane Doe or You Fail Me), but this is the most important album Converge has written.

I really love this album, it might even be my favorite album from them. :) But the track listing is fucked up. The original track listing is 1. The Saddest Day 2. Foresaken 3. Albatross 4. Dead 5. Shingles 6. Buried But Breathing 7. Farewell Note to this City 8. Color Me Blood Red. Farewell Note to this City blows my mind everytime I listen to it. It's probably my favorite song on the album. :)
