I was browsing for some random garage stuff earlier when I came across Achtung Spitfire Schnell Schnell!!'s site (what a name!). They are a German garage punk band. Throw in some soul and some psych and you get a great sound which reminded me a bit of Billy Childish, The Solution and the Compulsive Gamblers. But then I might be completely off as I have a rotten head cold and my senses aren't what they should be. And even though I feel like shit they made me wanna get up and dance ;o)
You can download their album Tour Edition for free from their website. There's 3 tracks you won't get unless you order the CD which, unfortunately, seems to be out of print. There's also a few more demo tracks available here.

A beatiful song from the first wave of garage rock in the '60s, and a great song to start anything with, whether it's a journal or a playlist. This is a journal about a playlist - my "Most Played/Enjoyed of Summer 2006" playlist. Summer being at an end, the development of my seasonal playlist is also over. This song was one of the first I added. I'd first listened to Nuggets a bit before the summer, and one of my favorites was of course Little Bit O' Soul. They had a hit with it (I think) in 1967, and this cover opened the Ramones' 1983 album Subterranean Jungle. Musically it's great: simple, catchy, direct, and rocking.
Don't Worry About Me
Joey's last great composition, from his first, and sadly last, solo album, also called Don't Worry About Me. It's amazing how little his indescribably great voice had changed in the 18 years since he'd recorded the above song. That album, and this song, is a lot of people's last impression of Joey Ramone, as it was released posthumously. …

*By Blaine Schultz*
Greg Cartwright's week beats your month.
The Asheville, N.C. -- by way of Memphis -- musician was in Milwaukee last week to do production work on the debut album by Brew City band The Goodnight Loving.
First a bit of background. Cartwright gained underground icon status with The Oblivians and the Compulsive Gamblers, bands whose discographies are a
wealth of sweaty garage/soul/R&B. Cartwright's current group The Reigning Sound blends timeless pop hooks with country touches and R&B grooves while still veering manic when need be. Not long ago he produced and played with
The Detroit Cobras.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon the crowd spills outside the entry door to The Circle A, a cozy Riverwest music hotspot. Cartwright is seated, armed with
an old Silvertone acoustic guitar strung up lefty. He apologizes and says he's not used to playing solo gigs. "What do you want to hear?" he asks the
