The Day Seattle Died (3:34)

Cover of Year Of The Spider

From Year Of The Spider and 1 other release

“The Day Seattle Died” is a song by American post-grunge band Cold. The song is the tenth track on their 2003 LP, Year of the Spider, and serves as a tribute to singers Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley, who were both considerably influential to music in the 1990s. “The Day Seattle Died” describes the build up to Cobain’s suicide in 1994, as well as Staley’s drug overdose in 2002. Obvious references made to Cobain include a shotgun hitting the floor. Staley is described as “sitting in his angry chair,” an obvious reference to the Alice in Chains song.

Blown away by fame... We could all feel the shotgun hit the floor... Never mind in faith If you can't believe... Drowning in misery... The nightmare began when you closed the door... You sat in your angry chair and just tried to be you... The needle became your queen... The drug had become your enemy And music was just a way for you to bleed...

However I wish the chorus was something related to both of them, not only to Kurt. [2]

I hate the Layne/Kurt fights. So: 1st verse is about Kurt, and the 2nd one is about Layne, obviously... However I wish the chorus was something related to both of them, not only to Kurt. Nevertheless I think the song is a great tribute to both.

"We could hear the shotgun hit the floor" Last time I checked, Layne didn't kill himself with a shotgun. This song is about Kurt.
