“The Day Seattle Died” is a song by American post-grunge band Cold. The song is the tenth track on their 2003 LP, Year of the Spider, and serves as a tribute to singers Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley, who were both considerably influential to music in the 1990s. “The Day Seattle Died” describes the build up to Cobain’s suicide in 1994, as well as Staley’s drug overdose in 2002. Obvious references made to Cobain include a shotgun hitting the floor. Staley is described as “sitting in his angry chair,” an obvious reference to the Alice in Chains song.
