Code Pie began with a series of home recordings by singer Enzo Palermo in the year 2000. Two years later Palermo contacted guitarist Salvatore Ciolfi through an internet ad, and the two began writing and playing music together. Originally focused on a sort of post-rock influenced electronica, the duo were soon joined by drummer Vince Varano and bassist Michel Semienchuk. The additions of trumpet player Eva Boodman and cellist Rebecca Lessard completed the sextet, and the group fell into a more immediate pop-rock sound.

This Habit (2005)

This Habit was released on April 8, 2005. The album was self-produced and recorded for $700. All songs on This Habit were recorded in the auditorium of Varano’s former high school, as well as other locations around Montreal. Vocal and overdub work continued in the months that followed the recording while the band worked to get a satisfactory sound on their shoestring budget. Released on their own label, Flagless Records, the album eventually garnered comparisons to other notable Canadian indie bands and led to a distribution deal with PHD Canada.

The Most Trusted Name in Yous (2007)

Recorded over a period of a year, The Most Trusted Name in Yous is Code Pie’s second album. Released on June 16, 2007, the album was this time recorded and mixed at the Hotel 2 Tango in Montreal with Howard Bilerman, Brian Paulson, and Kevin Komoda, and released at an event influenced by the drive-in movie experiences of the 50’s. It too has enjoyed success on Canadian and American college radio circuits and has again received favorable reviews.
