Cocos Lovers formed in early 2008 and since their formation have gone from strength to strength. The summer of 2008 saw them play many festivals and gigs, which included a European tour. Over a period of threemonths the band played their way through Holland, Belgium, France, Germany and Spain. They busked their way from place to place and stayed in communes and squats, where this unusual troupe of musicians were welcomed with open arms. The tour lasted proved to be an incredible eye-opening experience, with many of their adventures inspiring new songs.
The songs feature a number of instruments including violin, tenor banjo, mandolin, guitars, flute and ukulele, which compliment the 4/6/8 part harmonies that run through their set to produce a rich, dynamic and interesting sound.
Since their return to the UK they have released two EP’s. Their debut EP, ‘The Story of Lunatic Van Rogue’ released in April 2009 and has since sold out. The second EP ‘Time to Stand’ was released on the 3rd July 2009 and sold out of the 1000 copies pressed in under a fortnight. The band have featured on BBC Introducing where they were described as ‘one of Kent’s most promising new bands’ and also BBC6 Music.
“My good gosh!!! This band are one of our exciting myspace finds of recent memory. A truly sublime 8 piece roots and folk outfit from a charming place named Deal.
It would not be out of place to mention them in the same breath as the likes of Mumford and Sons, Laura Marling or Cherbourg. Or christ!…even Leadbelly, Merle Haggard and Woodie Guthrie.
Simply breathtaking. One of those acts that have the ability to grab your attention just by mic testing, hold your gaze by string tuning and simply take your breath right out of your body on the first song and send your heart raising round your body on the second. And you wont stop trying to catch it till well after they’ve left the stage.”

“Are we looking at the next big breakthrough act to come out of Kent here? Quite possibly…
Cocos Lovers have this wonderful knack of creating this music which is built upon layers and layers of intricate loveliness and deft instrumentation aimed at both your head and your feet. Live they whip up a storm wherever they play, and recently left fans of Mumford and Sons aghast at their quality when they joined them on the bill at The Farmhouse.
Sounding as good on record with debut EP ‘The Story Of Lunatic Van Rogue’ as they do when they play live, Cocos Lovers have lined up a packed Summer of high profile festival appearances and we’re pretty sure they’re going to make a massive amount of new friends and followers off the back of them all… Good times? I should Cocos…”
