Let's be real - no record is/was ever going to be better than King of the Dead. CU fans should have known that then and they definitely should know it by now and tempered their expectations for any follow-ups accordingly. It's one of those records that is just THAT monumentally epic. Both One Foot in Hell and this album were damned from the start because even if they were solid, they weren't going to be able to match the perfection of CU's sophomore magnum opus. Paradise Lost has its moments and definitely doesn't deserve all the trashing it gets. Just because the members of a band don't like one of their records doesn't mean that the fans have to follow suit.

Oh... this album is a masterpiece... actually i thought it wasn't that good only because it was at "their worst" but damn it's great! Especially Fallen Idols, Paradise Lost, Before The Lash and Chaos Rising. And as @JesusBurton said the cover of Arthur Brown is also a splendid song.

This is their most consistent album IMHO. "Join the Legion", "Before the Lash" and "Heaven Help Us" are the highlights, "Go It Alone" even has some vintage Van Halen vibe to it, Bakers voice sounds marvelous throughout the record, and the cover of Arthur Brown's "Fire" is also a great one indeed. Heavy Metal Masperpiece!

I know the bands wasn't too happy with this album overall but it contains some of the best tracks they wrote.
