There are at least five artists who go by the name Cicada: a New Zealand based rock group (formed 1992), an electronic musician (now called Tettix), an UK electronic band (formed 2002), a Nigerian band and modern classical band from Taipei, Taiwan.

1) 5-piece modern classical/post-rock/acoustic band from Taipei, Taiwan. In 2010 they released their first 6-track album Over the Sea Under the Water on White Wabbit Records (Taiwan).

2) Formed in 1992 in Auckland, New Zealand. They released 1 EP in 1994 and an album in 1997. Though ostensibly a guitar-based rock band they use a wide range of technologies - both modern and ‘outdated’ - to achieve a distinctive and often ethereal sound.

3) Creating music since early 1999, but is less well known. His work is mainly some electronic music that spans a few different genres. Some albums are soundtracks to non-existent videogames created in a 16bit/8bit throwback style. Some albums are instrumental IDM music in the key of Plaid or Orbital. Some are even faster electronic pop music with vocals and strong punk undertones. He has also “redone” some famous pop titlesin a cappella as Choralseptic.
