About This Track

“Tubthumping” is a 1997 single by British alternative rock band Chumbawamba, which has become the band’s biggest - and in most places in the world, only - hit in their 25 year career. The song hit #2 on the UK Singles Charts, #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart. While it was intended to mock the behavior of working class barhopping youths, it ironically was embraced by that same demographic.

Lyrics:

(The truth is, I thought it mattered)

(I thought that music mattered.)
(But does it? Bollocks! Not compared to how people matter)

(We’ll be singing, when we’re winning, we’ll be singing)

I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down

(Pissing the night away, pissing the night away)
He drinks a Whiskey drink, he drinks a Vodka drink
He drinks a Lager drink, he drinks a Cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times
(Oh Danny Boy, Danny Boy, Danny Boy)

I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
