Cherami is a 5 piece band that was started in New York City by guitarist, Etnar Casado and bassist, Osiris Rosario. The band went through a few members in its early days but finally settled for drummer, Ashmel Vargas in 2011.
The band continued as a 3-piece for a few months, demoing many songs and performing a few small gigs in the city in order to help expose themselves.
In early January 2012, the band decided to recruit a keyboardist to help expand their sound, and make more multilayered music. After a post on a Facebook forum made by guitarist Etnar, Christian Longoria, a keyboardist from Pelham, NY, took interest and tried out within a few weeks. In late January, Christian officially joined and the band began to practice in the attic of his Pelham home. The addition of keyboards marked a significant change in the band’s sound, focusing on more atmospheric/electronic textures in the vein of MUTEMATH, Muse, and Moving Mountains.
A new set of songs arose in this period of the band’s career, and they began to perform regularly in small NYC and Westchester venues for the next 3 months. In the spring time, the band felt they were due for yet another addition: a lead singer. The members never expressed an interest in continuing as an instrumental band, even though none of the songs written so far contained vocals.
