Big Man's Hat (4:58)
From West Coast Diaries, Volume Two and 6 other releases
In the booklet enclosed in the West Coast Diaries Collection, Charlie Peacock says about this track:
“I love this version musically. From the beginning it was one of our best songs live. That’s why it stuck around long enough to be recorded three different ways. Lyrically it speaks of a boy who has the appearance of a man on the outside, but on the inside possesses none of the wisdom necessary to fulfill the roles his choices have cast him in. He is a ship adrift at sea, living proof that a little deviation at the first widens at the end. The song captures him at a point of wanting to make the transition from child to man and of beginning to ask the right questions. ‘Big Man’s Hat’ is my story.”
