Biography

There are two artists that go by Chanticleer.

The first is San Francisco-based ensemble known around the world as “an orchestra of voices” for the seamless blend of its twelve male voices ranging from countertenor to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music. Called “the world’s reigning male chorus,” by The New Yorker, and named 2008 Ensemble of the Year by Musical America, Chanticleer will perform more than 100 concerts in 2009-10, the Grammy Award-winning ensemble’s 32nd Season. Praised by The San Francisco Chronicle for their “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” Chanticleer will tour to 21 of the United States and 12 foreign countries this season, including appearances at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Vienna’s Musikverein, and Prague’s Rudolfinum In 2009, Chanticleer made debut appearances in Ireland and the People’s Republic of China and will return to the latter in June for Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Highlights of the 2009-10 season will be Chanticleer’s first National Youth Choral Festival in San Francisco in March, appearances at two American Choral Directors Association conferences, and the release of a new recording - Best of Chanticleer and a new DVD, Fireside Christmas with Chanticleer.

The second is Salt Lake City indie folk artist Andrew Shaw, who also heads a band, The Adonis.

From Chanticleer's Youtube Channel: Grammy® award-winning Chanticleer releases its first music video - Indie Pop hit "Cells Planets". Exploring new music has been a defining characteristic of the group for three decades. Here, the "Cells Planets" video propels Chanticleer into the Indie Pop world. Conceived and produced by the group while on the road, the six-minute video was shot using cell phones & webcams, follows the members, separated from their friends and loved ones, singing Erika Lloyd's haunting "Cells Planets." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl12ZXZeqa4

I saw these guys live this past weekend in Athens,GA and had chills throughout the entire performance. The individual voices are amazing, but together they are phenomenal.

Mainly the fact that Chanticleer gets away from the fox in the end.
