Ciwan Haco (born 1957) is a Kurdish singer. He was born near Qamishlo in Syria. His grandfather was originally from Mardin in Turkey. After finishing high school, he left for Germany in order to continue his studies. He studied music at the University of Bochum for three years. He is now residing in Sweden.
Grup Munzur (The Web Group) was founded in 1992 in Izmir/Turkey.
In 1993 it's debut album appeared. Grup Munzur does not only sing in Turkish, but (in addition to Circassian, Laz, Greek a.o.) they mainly sing also in Kurdish languages like Zazaki, Kurmaji and Gorani.
Grup Kızılırmak founded by İlkay Akkaya, Tuncay Akdoğan and İsmail İlknur in 10 October 1990 and is based in Turkey. The group is named after "Kızılırmak" poem of Hasan Hüseyin Korkmazgil. The group in best known for playing Anatolian Folk Music (Turku) and their protest lyrics. Their music is more innovative and tolerant, compared to the music of other protest music groups of the period.
Birol Topaloglu was born to a Laz family, in the small village Apso, which is on the North Eastern shore of the Black Sea coast of Turkey, near the Georgian border. He grew up speaking the Lazuri language at home. He started to sing in both Turkish and Lazuri, as well as his experiments in instrumentation drew serious attention.
