-Charlotte, NC (2006-present)+Cement Stars saw its beginnings as a lo-fi bedroom recording project between the Chicago-born, Carolina-based fraternal duo of Shaun and Bryan Olson in the fall of 2006. The two-piece Cement Stars began songwriting – often separately on a four-track Tascam – later meeting to collaborate and share ideas. In September 2009, with mixing and mastering from producer/ engineer Paul Jensen, Cement Stars released a full-length album entitled Geometrics on 10mm Omega Recordings.
-Cement Stars began in November 2006 with brothers Bryan and Shaun Olson. Originally from Chicago, IL, the brothers moved to Charlotte, NC to be with family. In fall 2009, Cement Stars released their debut album, Geometrics, through 10mm Omega, a local record label.+In June 2009, the band added percussionist Cody Hare (a.k.a. DJ Buckmaster) to play synthesizer and auxiliary percussion pieces. Cody’s aggressive but precise drumming style added intensity and forceful cadence to the live set experience. In February 2010, guitarist Joshua Faggart joined the band, adding a honed technical element to the band’s guitar section and contributing to the band’s songwriting. Cody left the band in March 2011 to pursue a career in electronic music production, but his departure was closely followed by the addition of friends of the band Enid Valu and Kurt Dodrill – Enid bringing ethereal vocals and synthesizer, and Kurt marking the return of bass guitar to the sound of the band. Later in March 2011, the band caught the ears of the founders of the Electric Mountain Music Group, who immediately saw potential in the artistic direction that Cement Stars was taking and asked the band to join the label.
-In April 2010, Cement Stars welcomed Josh Faggart as a second guitarist. In April 2011, Cement Stars joined another local record label, Electric Mountain. Around the same time, the band line-up grew to include Enid Valu on vocals and synth, and Kurt Dodrill on bass guitar. New album entitled Form/Temper will be released in the near future on Electric Mountain.+“I think Cement Stars are great. They sound modern, but with a nod to post punk and new wave bands from the past. I also like how they use traditional instrumentation combined with technology to create their sound.
-Cement Stars has played with many touring acts including Twin Sister, Toro Y Moi, Nite Jewel, Say Hi (To Your Mom), Autolux, Candy Claws, Holy Ghost! and more.
