Bits of Cage's prepared piano music can be felt, as well as Conlon Nancarrow's outrageous piano-roll music. Amazing.

not sure which came first, but this sounds very much like a lot of contemporary classical music. hints of minimalism, serialism, etc. throughout. good stuff.

CT sets the course of piano improv from this date on. Great collaboration from drummer Andrew Cyrille. Atmosphere, suspense, unpredictability (Alan Silva's bowed bass), articulation, expansion, harmonic and rhythmic complexity, melodic elusiveness.
