Biography

San Diego, United States (1996 – present)

Cattle Decapitation are an American band from San Diego, California.

Originally founded in 1996, Cattle Decapitation’s songs protest the mistreatment and consumption of animals as well as the abuse of the environment. Lyrics may also focus on subjects such as misanthropy and genocide of the human race. Much of their music is based on putting humans in the situations that animals are subjected to (animal testing, slaughter, etc).

Their 2002 album To Serve Man saw controversy in Germany, where distribution company SPV refused to handle the album due to its graphic cover. The cover of the 2004 album Humanure, featuring a cow excreting human remains, was reportedly censored without permission from the label in some outlets. Record store owners did not display the album, making it difficult for customers to find and buy it.

Former member Gabe Serbian is a member of the band The Locust.

Metal author and journalist Garry Sharpe-Young once acknowledged the band as “one of the few metal bands whose message hits as hard as their music.”

Cattle Decapitation has toured with many bands including Suffocation, Cryptopsy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Deicide, Behemoth, Hate Eternal, Krisiun, and Job for a Cowboy. Their latest album The Harvest Floor was released in 2009.

I don't see how vegan lyrics are a problem when you can't even really understand anything Travis Ryan says without a lyric sheet. [2] I've been wondering the same thing

eagerly anticipating the new album. also quit whining about the veganism, their lyrics arent even that preachy and are pretty much indistinguishable from ever other dm band around today (just better)

vegan ideologies should stay out of human existence and live in the minds of rodents and ruminants, where they belong.

I think Monolith of Inhumanity is gonna be one of those albums that 10 years from now we look back on as a classic.

vegan ideologies should just stay out of music altogether. if i want to know more about animal rights, i wouldnt listen to something like this for the sole purpose of their message, i would just read up some articles online. i still enjoy their music though.

Also I listened to this band for a while before I even realized they were Vegan. Pretty cool how most of their music is condemning people like me. Makes it more fun to listen to and easy to relate to. Great breakdowns (or slams as troo metalers call them)

"hipster band The Locust." I don't know what's worse. Pretending hipster has a negative connotation, or calling The Locust a hipster band. Is this real life?

Omg! I don't usually listen to death metal (even more brutal death metal) and came here only because of the vegan ideal behind the band, but these guys' sound is so moving and powerful! Loved it!
