This album is actually a bit of a masterpiece that catches up to you. The songs are really strong. And the sound of the recording is fantastic. There's a whole plethora of gorgeous guitar tones here as well, warm and inviting. ambient and ferocious. Tim Friese-Greene (of band 'Talk Talk'), should've gotten an award for his production on this record.

More recently I've discovered the absolute wonder that is "Salt"... and the other night I was listening to "Balloon" and going, WOAH, THIS ROCKS! Funny how you can overlook a song at first, and then it smacks you in the face!

Funny how is this is much closer to alternative rock or post-grunge than to shoegaze. Nevertheless, it has some pretty good noisy freakouts on it and I'd be more than overjoyed if current FM radio would play tracks like "Black Metallic" more often.

This is one of those albums, along with Interpol's TOTBL, that, when I see it on the shelves of a second-hand store, I get rush of good feeling just gazing at the cover, and the irrational impulse to buy it again as if I'll get "more of it". :)
