Cardiff, Wales (1992 – 2001)

Catatonia were an alternative rock band from Cardiff, Wales formed in 1992. They consisted of Cerys Matthews (vocals), Mark Roberts (guitar), Owen Powell (guitar), Paul Jones (bass) and Aled Richards (drums). They split in 2001.

Catatonia was formed in 1992, reputedly after songwriter Mark Roberts heard Cerys busking in Cardiff city centre. They had considerable success, their most famous hits being “Mulder and Scully”, “Road Rage” and “Dead From The Waist Down”. In September 2001, Cerys announced her departure from Catatonia after bouts of exhaustion and anxiety. Her departure was followed shortly by the breakup of the group.

Cerys is now performing her solo material (which is more / influenced) .

Not to be confused with the Swedish metal band Katatonia.

Cerys now has a solo album and is working as a DJ for Alternative radio Station BBC 6 Music.

    Katatonia's fans would probably be less irritable if they knew how to spell the names of their favourite bands. Then they wouldn't find themselves on the wrong page. We should pity them.

    Catatonia i love you, i love so Catatonia that i have Catatonia pc game. I rather be liberated but i'm still playing cause i found my self captivated and i dream i'm your one and only, things are getting strange I started to worry and this could be a case of Mulder and Scully. haha

    I know that people coming here and talking about Katatonia is annoying but if you speak ill of Katatonia you only seem ignorant because they are one of the best bands ever existed (even outside metal. Their last metal album was 16 years ago)
